What’s Next for You?

What should I do with my life?

Wow. That’s a big question – and it’s one that so many people are grappling with right now simultaneously in the world. The energy produced by this moment of pause can feel both exciting and a bit disconcerting. As Krista Tippett said recently,

“Something has literally happened to all of us almost at once.”

Big moments in society arrive with big questions and (often) few answers. That can be frustrating. But it can also be freeing, if you wrap your head around the questions that way, if you pursue inquiry, and you stay open to the answers as they present themselves.

That’s not easy to do but it’s so worthwhile.

Sink into this moment and start asking yourself:

  • What do I want to do with my life? For work, for love, for my spirit?
  • Do I love my job?
  • Am I working for money or because I love the work? (Or both?)

Even if you love your work and you’re in pursuit of it right now, take a moment and look at your boundaries and the time you spend surrounding yourself with work. Are those boundaries sufficient? Do you need more? Or fewer boundaries? And are you bringing your whole self to your work? Do you even want to?

And it’s not just thinking about your own personal future, but the bigger picture.

  • How do you want the world to look?
  • And how can you be a part of that, whether that is part of your profession, a hobby, or how you interact with your community?

In this moment, you may have the time to begin planning these things out, to start focusing on how each present moment can propel you into the future you want.

Gift yourself some moments today (and this week) and think about what you want to do with your life. Open the door to possibilities. Acknowledge your realities. Stay soft. Stay open. And listen to what comes up.
