Simple Ways to Manage Your Energy During COVID-19

Staying grounded is hard. And during crisis, it’s even harder.
So how do we do this? We figure out how to manage our energy.
Think about it: you probably have available to you roughly the same amount of energy you had before this pandemic started … but somehow you might be anxious, tired, angry, or sad – sometimes in succession and sometimes all at the same time.
What to do?
Get some advice. There are so many experts we can look to for guidance in this difficult time. Yet with the constant stream of news, it’s easy to get distracted from what’s important. But that’s okay. You might wander but you can always find your way back.
Some practices you might want to consider to stay grounded and manage your energy:
1. Do something physical: exercise, run, lift weights, cycle, do yoga, Qi Gong, dance etc. Anything that gets your body moving can be a helpful way to calm your mind and return focus to scattered energy. Moving meditation is meditation.
2. Connect to your energy: sit, be present, take stock of what you’re feeling, and really take the time to check in with yourself and find out what’s going on with you.
3. Be creative: creativity can be used as both a form of connecting to yourself deeply and it can also be a calming, positive way to disconnect and escape. Ask any painter, writer, or musician. You can both be in the moment and be lost in the flow.
As you reconnect with your energy, take note of what feelings might be coming up. Maybe they are feelings or thoughts you’ve been pushing to the back of your mind. Or, maybe, they are thoughts you’ve noticed all along.
Whatever might come up let yourself experience it and then return to what’s important.
